Here’s our guide to the top 5 things to do in Mount Isa

Mount Isa Lookout
For a 360 degree panoramic view of Mount Isa, head straight to the Mount Isa Lookout. Make it extra special and bring a picnic to soak up the scenery on one of the shaded picnic tables.

Mount Isa Train Station
Just 1 km from Nightcap at Barkly Hotel is the Mount Isa Train Station, making transport easy for those visiting by train. While the Great Northern Railway is a major freight route in Queensland, the Inlander is a passenger train that connects Mount Isa to coastal Townsville.

Hard Times Mines
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a miner deep underground, the tours at Hard Times Mines put you right in the heart of it. The experienced guides take guests on a journey through the history and the mechanics of the mine, with hands-on experiences to put you up close and personal with the machinery. It’s a must-do on a trip to Mount Isa.

Warrigal Waterhole
As you head east out of Mount Isa, about 12 km down the road lies Warrigal Waterhole, also known as Painted Rock. Accessible via dirt road, the waterhole draws wildlife and offers a serene setting to soak up the environment.

Three Steps Sisters
For those after a 4wd trek, head to Three Sisters, also known as Three Steps. It’s a relatively easy 4WD track with steep hills, sharp rocks and river crossings in the wet season. Even better, the start of the track is less than 10 km from Nightcap at Barkly Hotel, so you’ll have a clean and comfy room to call it a night after a day on the road.
