Nightcap at Atherton Hotel is Now Open
Atherton Hotel has been around since the turn of last century, and is a pillar in the community. In 1944, the original wood building burned down and charred the adjacent light pole. Delays in rebuilding the pub led to a temporary watering hole in the lot next door and from that time onwards, the pub was affectionately known as “the black Stump” (in reference to the fire-scarred pole). 1954 saw the hotel resurrected as the brick building we know and love today, but the legacy of the Black Stump lives on at Atherton Hotel.
With a rich history, Atherton Hotel has been welcoming guests for years. After undergoing renovations, the 20 accommodation rooms (with two new apartments) have reopened as Nightcap at Atherton Hotel. This marks the 74th hotel to join the Nightcap Hotels family, and we couldn’t be more excited. The hotel design reflects the surrounding area with blue and green hues as a nod to the lakes, waterfalls and the other natural beauty in the local area.
Atherton QLD is located in the Tablelands Region southeast of Cairns, about a 90 minute drive from the coastal city. Whether passing by or coming to stay for a few nights, Nightcap at Atherton Hotel has affordable accommodation in a convenient location.

An 80 minute drive from Atherton lies Queensland’s most awarded attraction, Paronella Park. It is hard to put into words exactly how gorgeous this place is. Built in the 1930s to mimic a castle, it was once a home and social gathering place, then a reception hall for weddings and events, and is now open for day and night visits to explore the grounds. With extensive foliage both around and as part of the infrastructure, perfectly manicured lawns and gardens, and different areas to explore, it is one of the most magical places to see in Queensland.
