The Sites Edit
Tasmania may look small, but there are a plethora of sites and attractions scattered throughout the state. It’s hard to narrow it down (there’s so much to do and see!), but we’ve pulled together an organised outline of the “can’t miss” spots in our 4 favourite areas around TAS.
HOBART
The biggest city in TAS, Hobart is bursting with fun for days. Stay at Nightcap at Carlyle Hotel in Derwent Park for easy access to all this city has to offer. We’ll keep it simple with just the essentials:
-
MONA: You’ve probably heard all about it, but a visit to this strange, funky and awe-inspiring Museum of Old and New Art is an absolute must.
-
Mount Wellington: Calling all nature-lovers! Take your pick from an easy 2km loop or a nearly 10km return trek to the top of the mountain, and a few options in between.
-
Salamanca Market & Arts Precinct: Stalls selling fresh produce, gourmet delights and unique gifts, the Market is on every Saturday and is a fave of both locals and visitors. The surrounding buildings offer art galleries and shops to peruse.
EAST COAST
As you travel between Hobart and Launceston, take the scenic route and stop into some of the gorgeous East Coast sites along the way. You’ve got Carlyle Hotel in Hobart or Riverside Hotel in Launceston for accommodation at the end of the day, so take your time visiting our top 3 East Coast stops:
-
Bay of Fires: Gorgeous white sand, massive boulders and crystal clear waters… it’s pretty perfect, really. Go for a walk, soak up the views and maybe even brave a dip in the water - it’s fresh.
-
Bicheno Blowholes: The town is cute and friendly, and the Blowholes are exhilarating!! Just be careful; it can get a little wild with water shooting from under the rocks.
-
Freycinet National Park: In addition to pristine beaches, there are bushwalking and hiking trails to reward you with breathtaking views below.

LAUNCESTON
It’s got small town vibes in a slightly larger package. The people are friendly, the food is great and you’re only moments away from a range of natural beauties to enjoy. Drop your bags at Nightcap at Riverside Hotel, then hit up our top 3:
-
Cataract Gorge: Less than 2 km from the city centre lies this breathtaking natural beauty. Go for a walk, cruise along the river or sip a coffee while you take in the views.
-
Tamar Valley: For the wine lovers out there, a trip to Tassie isn’t complete without a day exploring this riverside wine growing region.
-
Harvest Launceston: The Community Farmers’ Market runs every Saturday morning, so stop by for fresh local produce, gourmet items and great gifts.
DEVONPORT
