Make the Most of Perth on a Long Weekend
Whether you’re in town for the long weekend or live here full time, we’ve pulled together our top five free things to do in Perth.
1. Hit the Beach
From Cottesloe to City beach, Scarborough and beyond, the Indian Ocean never looked so good. Hack #1 for cheap fun in the city: beach day. Spend some quality time with loved ones or with number one (that’s you we’re talking about). Go on, treat yourself to ice cream after a big swim! Talk about cheap thrills.
2. Freo

Fremantle has a vibe unlike any other. We can’t quite put our finger on it, but it’s pretty darn cool. Spend a day wandering around Freo, people-watching, visiting the markets and simply soaking up the sights and sounds of this cool ‘hood. Be sure to swing by Sail & Anchor for a refreshing drink along the way.
3. Swan River Trail
Time to get those steps in. The 10 km loop around the Swan River can be as easy or as difficult as you make it, but either way, it’s a lovely way to spend time and soak up the surroundings. The track takes you past Elizabeth Quay, Barrack St Jetty, Riverside Drive and the South Perth Foreshore.
4. Blue Boat House

Just outside the southwest corner of Kings Park is this Insta-worthy gem. No matter what the weather is doing, the Blue Boat House looks idyllic on the water. And while you’re there, you may as well take some time to wander Kings Park. It is one of the world’s largest inner city parks, after all.
5. Northbridge Piazza
In the heart of the city, Northbridge Piazza offers a quiet, grassy area during the day and often has special events, movies, live music, exhibitions or other festivities in the evenings. Take a look at what free events are happening, or just wander by. Even if nothing’s on, it’s still a lovely place to sit and soak up the atmosphere.
