Looking for an excuse to head outdoors these summer holidays? Then leave it to us, we’ve compiled a list of the very best family friendly locations in South Australia, perfect for kids and adults to enjoy over the school holidays.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens

Adelaide SA

Breathe in, breathe out, it’s time to reacquaint yourself with nature. Adelaide Botanic Gardens is the perfect family friendly location for an adventure, a picnic or anything in between. Just north of the CBD, the 51 hectares of lush greenery are a welcome change to the skyscrapers and suburban streets.

Kids will be able to run and explore the many attractions, and if you’re feeling like a quick history lesson, sign up for a guided walk.

Once you’ve had enough of the gardens, travel 20 minutes and you’ll find a different type of zen, with Nightcap at Findon Hotel. Put your feet up, enjoy a refreshing drink and relax.

If you’re looking for something to get the kids involved, head to Beerenberg, a family run farm producing jams, condiments, sauces and everything else you can imagine. But what Beerenberg is most famous for is their strawberries. Put the kids to work in the strawberry field, where you’ll be able to collect your own berries.

At the end of the day, head to Nightcap at Hendon Hotel to rest after a day on the farm.

Adelaide Zoo

Adelaide SA

The second oldest in Australia, Adelaide Zoo is home to over 2500 animals and 250 species of exotic and native mammals. The whole family will be able to spy on their favourite animals while learning about each species. From lions and pandas, to rhinos and kangaroos, you’ll find them all here.

Once you’re ready to put your feet up, head to Nightcap at Finsbury Hotel just 20 minutes away. With a delicious pub meal and a comfortable bed, what more can you ask for?

West Beach Adventure

West Beach SA

West Beach Adventure is a must-visit over the school holidays, offering a combination of adrenalin orientated outdoor activities to challenge the whole family.

Check out the mega climb, 20m vertical drop, or the three person giant swing. The high ropes course is perfect for the whole family to try, and if that doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, the onsite cafe is great to relax and watch.

At the end of the day, relax at Nightcap at Watermark Glenelg with Glenelg Beach just around the corner.
